In 2016, having spent 10 years working between Madrid, Moscow and Sao Paulo I made the life changing decision to change down a gear or two and enjoy a sabbatical in Cadiz in the western corner of Andalusia. It was there, in that city, surrounded by sea on all sides, that I became aware of the extraordinary quality of footwear produced locally. I became aware of a rich tradition of leather handcrafting spanning from the border with Portugal to the Sierra de Cadiz producing, in particular, boots of remarkable quality for a solely domestic market. I had no doubt that there would be huge demand for footwear produced to such high standards from premium material further afield, if only I could get the word out.
The decision to settle in Cadiz had far reaching consequences which still amaze me. Shortly after arriving there, I met my now husband, who had a business in the city. A whirlwind romance, an engagement and a little over a year later, our first son was born. And so we set off on our life journey together.
Fast forward four years and my husband and I, along with our 2 beautiful little boys, find ourselves splitting our time between Southern Spain and England and enjoying the best of both.
In Spain, I spend my time working alongside my colleagues in the leather workshops to match the demands of the wider UK and European market with their production. The products you will find on our website are exclusive to Mar y Viento in the UK and US.
The ethos of Mar y Viento is to re-connect contemporary style with a shoemaking tradition whose quality endures: handmade; not mass produced.
We are immensely proud to be able to bring these beautiful leather and suede boots developed through years of experience in design and shoemaking to a wider market. The authenticity, artistry and classicism that we demand for Mar y Viento is embodied by the current collection.
